About

GARRETT OBRYCKI

I am Garrett Obrycki. I have spent much of the last half decade attempting to decode what it is I want to do and who I am.

I started with piano, became a theatre kid, and spent my early adulthood as an opera singer, performing with companies across the country. Alongside performing, I began teaching through institutions like the Kimmel Center and Skidmore College, working with hundreds of young people. On the days I taught, I was a better performer. It was magic.

Knowing opera was not my final form, I began asking different questions: How do people learn? What is transformation? How does power move through institutions, relationships, and the stories we inherit?

Those questions carried me into education, producing, leadership, and eventually psychotherapy. I began building programs, festivals, and civic projects where artists, ideas, and communities could meet, while continuing to study how people make meaning, how groups hold or fracture experience, and how transformation becomes possible.

I now make theatrical, meditative, and ritual-based performances that blend voice, electronic music, piano improvisation, text, movement, and participatory experience.

I do not experience my training in psychotherapy as separate from my artistic life. Both practices ask how people become more fully alive, and how art might break through the hypernormalization of an increasingly disembodied and noncreative daily life.

Ultimately, I make work for people who are searching—for meaning, for belonging, for courage, and for one another.
